Conceived by Pope Urban II following an appeal from the Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos, the First Crusade was a success with Christian forces taking control of Jerusalem on 15 July 1099. Around 60,000 soldiers and at least half again of non-combatants were involved in the First Crusade which set off on their quest in 1095.
Design features a stylized version of 'The Road to Jerusalem' by Gustave Doré. As well as a Jerusalem Cross on the front side.
